Job Description

Substation Engineering Company (SECo) is a full-service engineering and design firm delivering high-quality solutions to electric utilities nationwide. Our expertise spans substation, switchyard, transmission, and distribution projects, enhanced by advanced laser scanning and 3D modeling capabilities. We integrate strong engineering fundamentals with efficient, forward-thinking processes to deliver safe, reliable, and constructible solutions for critical infrastructure.

In partnership with Tier 1 Utility Design, Inc. (Tier 1), a certified woman-owned engineering firm, we cultivate a collaborative, engineering-driven environment where ideas are shared openly, challenges are addressed proactively, and technical excellence is the standard. Our team is committed to ownership, continuous improvement, and a supportive culture that values both professional growth and work–life balance.

We’re looking for a Civil Structural Engineer with direct substation experience to join our growing team. In this mid-level role, you’ll design concrete foundations and steel structures for substations that power the national grid. This is a technical, non-supervisory position ideal for engineers looking to deepen their impact on major utility projects.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Develop engineering designs and calculations for concrete foundations and steel support structures
  • Analyze structures using tools like STAAD, MathCAD, and LPILE
  • Create and review engineering deliverables, working closely with designers and drafters
  • Ensure all designs meet ASCE 113 and other applicable codes and standards
  • Collaborate across teams to support high-quality, timely project delivery

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering
  • 3+ years of civil/structural engineering experience in substation projects
  • Professional Engineer license required
  • Proficiency in STAAD, MathCAD, LPILE, or comparable analysis tools
  • Experience with reinforced concrete and structural steel design
  • Familiarity with transmission and distribution utility standards

What We Offer:

  • Competitive salary (commensurate with experience)
  • Comprehensive benefits: medical, dental, vision, life & disability insurance
  • 401(k) match and generous paid time off
  • Paid parental leave
  • Collaborative team culture focused on quality, integrity, and work-life balance
